March and April are very active months for me, with IHRSA, EHFF, FIBO, and Meet the Top. I try to take moments in between and while on the road to recap my highlights.
I have once again beat my own record, having met 400 contacts in over four days during FIBO 2019 – these range form clients to prospective clients, industry friends, acquaintances, and other contacts I’ve known from being involved in the fitness industry in Europe since 1979.
The European Health & Fitness Forum precedes FIBO, and features keynotes by experts in the industry.
This insight for example is taken from the Deloitte Market Report 2019, presented by Karsten Hollasch (Partner, Deloitte):
The FIBO Innovation award was presented by Prof. Ingo Froboese:
David Patchell-Evans, the Founder/CEO of Goodlife, presented the evolution of Goodlife in Canada:
Jonathan Fisher’s presentation (CEO, Holmes Place Group) covered PhD Degree Marketing in the Digital Age:
David Long from OrangeTheory Fitness drew an interesting new picture of the future of the Member Experience:
My Clients’ Booths
Six of my current clients have booths at FIBO: VirtuaGym, Urban Sports Club, FriendsCallMeJim, Motosumo, Eleiko and Gluckerkolleg) and some other clients attended without booth presence. As usual, I have enjoyed supporting my clients and introducing them to new contacts.

Staying Fit during FIBO
It was a pleasure to go on a morning run with Vidmantas, and attend Yoga at Holmes Place with Markus and Claudia. I didn’t need to worry too much about my level of activity, as I easily exceeded my goal of 10,000 steps a day! The view form my hotel room on the Rhine river was a moment of calm in a week of action.
Focus on Posture
It was interesting to see a focus on posture and alignment help. From my own experience with my back surgery last year, I can clearly see a fit here for individuals as well as my own clients.
Meetings, old & new friends.
FIBO is always a great opportunity to catch up with my contacts, below a few impressions of the people I met. (I couldn’t include all 400).
Further Meetings at FIBO
The Co-Founder of the FIBO, Volker Ebener, who I have had the privilege to know since 1984, is still very active at 74 years old with the German Fitness and Aerobic Association and many other interests.
My friend Doug Miller of Salesmakers made the long trip to FIBO from Malaga via Madrid to UK by car then by plane to Köln, which is worthy of a special mention – this is probably why he was being a little difficult on photos this time around.
This is a great opportunity for me to also thank Doron Dickman (CEO at Holmes Place) and my good friend Yves Preissler, who has now moved from Dubai to Kenya.
I am looking forward to reporting from Succeed with AFS Irvine CA, where I am already working out in the early morning with industry legend Todd Durkin before the start of education sessions.
Glucker Kolleg, Eleiko, maybe Beirut, European Congress Dublin; and I am lecturing in Köln June/September, I am also looking forward to sharing new business opportunities, these will be announced in my next newsletter.
See you soon!
