CanFitPro – 16-17 August 2019.
David Patchell-Evans, President of the GoodLife Fitness chain, who promotes career development for women in his organisation. The CanFitPro event had an entire preconference day focused on women of influence in the health and fitness sector. Maureen (Mo) Hagan leads CanFitPro, which also runs REPS Canada, a registry of almost 30.000 exercise professionals. The national launch of Prescription for Exercise was also announced at the Canadian Forum there, an initiative that makes sense as 80% of Canadians do not meet the weekly recommendation of at least 150 minutes of exercise.
Toronto: My Mom’s birthday, Cottage life, Rogers Cup, Baseball and Canadian Football
Traditionally I visit Toronto in August, combining my mother’s birthday (turned 93 on August 4th) with the Rogers Cup tennis tournament, a trip to my brother’s cottage and the CanFitPro event. This year I added a stop in Reykjavik, Iceland on my way home, leaving the morning that German chancellor Angela Merkel arrived there for meetings with the heads of state of the Nordic countries. The timing was particularly of note given the Greenland purchase attempt by US President Donald Trump.
Health is precious, and I exercised with my mom many mornings, also played tennis on the courts behind her back yard with several of my family.
R&R at the cottage offered a myriad of recreational activities including water skiing, kajaking, push boat, fishing, horsehoes and even bowling on one rainy day provided ample opportunities to recharge my batteries.
The Poutine craze continues in Toronto (I have also seen this french-fry based dish, which originated in Quebec, also in my current home of Winterthur), as well as wings and beer with friends, has become a standard part of my stay where I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s.
In the week of CanFitPro, the largest fitness event in Canada, I also took in professional sports matches going on: the Toronto Blue Jays (baseball) and the Toronto Argonauts (Canadian football) were in town, both teams lost but the atmosphere was infectious.
Reykjavik, Iceland: one day stopover on my way back
Several friends and family have visited Iceland before, this was my first time there, and it will not be my last, as there was not enough time to explore the splendor of this magical land which leads several categories such as standard of living and happiness.
Back to work with meetings in Germany & Switzerland
Upon my return from my 19 day trip I got back in the swing immediately, with a meeting with the leaders of Akademie für Sport und Gesundheit in Radolfzell one day after my return.
The Zurich PR Society summer event took place on August 22nd, and it always offers a great opportunity for networking and to enjoy the weather in the city.
